What is Memory?
Memory is the process by which we store information that we have learned or experienced. When memories are created, there are 3 main stages, which are encoding, storage and retrieval. We know a lot about the brain and its functions including memory, however there are parts that are not yet completely understood. It is fascinating that it will take many more years of research before we understand memory completely.
We all know generally what memory is. We know that memories are formed and stored in the brain and that we all have the capability to remember events. But have you ever stopped to think about how it actually works? This process that we rely on every day to do the things that we have to do is not always common knowledge. There are many misconceptions about memory. Many people think that the memories are stored in a cabinet where they can be taken out at any time to see the exact event that was stored. Others believe that memory is like a video recording stored in a camera. However this is not the case. The brain is far more complex than any technology that we have and you can learn more about this and how memory works and more on this website.
